MP & IMP

Matchpoint (MP Scoring)

Take all the N/S scores and give the best N/S score 100% and the worst N/S score 0% and then you calculate the % scores for the rest of the field. In MP's one extra trick can make the difference between getting a top or an average with the rest of the field.
Also your choice of contract can be significant. Better to be in 2 NT making 2, than 2H making 2, but if 2H making 3, then that is even better.

International Match Point
(IMP Scoring)
IMP scoring is used for scoring team matches, but is also be used for pair events.
The IMP field scores are not determined by a pre set top and bottom like in MP (100% and 0%)
but calculated from the IMP scale:

In IMPs the overtrick doesn't matter much, where as making the contract does.
Especially important in IMPs to bid the Games and Slams and avoid penalty doubling partscore contracts unless you are very sure you will set it.
Where in MP the difference between 100 and 300 can be 100%, it is seldom more than a few imps at most in an IMP scored field.
