SAYC. Takeout doubles through 4D, penalty doubles above 4D. Advances are limit bids, the cue bid being the only force.

SSS. Takeout doubles through 4S. Of course the higher the doubled bid, the more readily advancer can pass for penalties. Limit advances, except for double-jumps to three of an unbid major, which are always preemptive, based on a 6-card suit with only modest high-card strength. A cue-bid is forcing to game or suit agreement.
