SAYC. Non-jump notrump rebids show 13-16 points. So do simple rebids of opener's suit and single raises of responder's suit. New-suit
bids that do not bypass opener's first suit show 13-18 points. New-suit bids that bypass opener's first suit show 17-18 points. So do single jumps in responder's suit or opener's first suit. Double jumps in previously-bid suits,
and single jumps in notrump or new suits, show at least 19 points.SSS. 1NT rebids show hands too weak for 1NT openings. Single jumps in notrump show hands too strong for 1NT openings but not strong enough for 2NT openings.
Single raises of responder's suit are limited, denying substantial extra values. Simple rebids of opener's suit are slightly less limited, and new-suit rebids are much less limited. Jumps in previously-bid suits are merely
invitational after 1-level responses, but game-forcing after 2-level responses. Non-jump rebids that are not raises and bypass opener's first suit are forcing to game after 2-level responses, but merely strong invitational bids
after 1-level responses. Single jumps in new suits are game-forcing. Double-jumps in new suits are VOID splinters (an unusual treatment that you must alert and explain). Jumps to four in responder's suit suggest balanced
hands with game values. |
