RESPONDER'S
REBIDS
SSS by Danny Kleinman

SAYC. With 6-10 points, responder may pass, bid 1NT, or bid two of a previously-bid suit. With 11-12 points, partner may bid 2NT or three of a previously-bid suit. A new-suit rebid, except after opener's 1NT rebid, is forcing for one round; if it is the fourth suit, it may be artificial and should be alerted, except for 1C-1D; 1H-1S, which is natural.

In reply to responder's "fourth suit forcing" rebid, opener rebids naturally, except that he must not bid notrump without a stopper in the fourth suit and extra values. Sometimes opener must make a cheap rebid in his first or second suit, without extra length, for lack of the stopper and extras needed to bid notrump.

SSS. With Type w, responder may pass, bid at the 1-level, or make a minimum bid in a previously-bid suit. Over opener's 1NT rebid, responder may bid two of a suit lower-ranking than his first. If opener's rebid was game-invitational (three of a previously-bid suit, a raise of 1NT to 2NT, or two of suit outranking his first), responder may bid game with a maximum for his Type w hand.

With Type i, a 2-level responder may bid 2NT, three of the suit in which he responded, or three of the suit opener has just bid. A 1-level responder, however, must rebid 2NT, at the 3-level in a previously bid suit, or at the 2-level in a new suit.

With Type g, responder may bid game, bid a new suit (except over opener's 1NT rebid, when he must bid game, jump in a new suit, or bid two of a suit higher-ranking than his first), or, if his initial response was at the 2-level, jump in any (even a previously-bid) suit.

A new-suit rebid, except after opener's 1NT rebid, is forcing for one round, if it is the fourth suit, it should be alerted because it may be artificial, prefatory to making a forcing third bid in a previously-bid suit.

In reply to responder's "fourth suit forcing" rebid, opener rebids naturally, except that he must not bid THREE notrump without a stopper in the fourth suit. Opener's TWO notrump does not promise a stopper in the fourth suit (though it usually delivers one), and it certainly doesn't show extra values.
